Introduction
The Groundzero Lakehouse is a SQL engine over Apache Iceberg tables. You open a warehouse, start a SQL session on the compute size you choose, and write Spark SQL in the Lakehouse editor: create tables, load and change data, query it, travel back in time, protect it with policies, and export the results. It is the runtime to reach for when your work is SQL and your data lives in Iceberg tables, with no Python or job code to write.
This guide documents the Lakehouse end to end: what it is, how sessions and queries behave, how to do each common task, the SQL you can rely on, the limits that apply, how to recover from the messages you may see, and a gallery of worked examples.
Who this guide is for
Analysts, data engineers and developers who write SQL in Groundzero. The
examples use fictional data from a retail company, Acme Retail, in a
warehouse named acme-retail-lake. Replace the warehouse, database and
table names with your own.
